Nile University of Nigeria in collaboration with Career Afrika organised a career workshop on the 3rd of November, 2018. This workshop was targeted at the final-year students; however, it was also open to other individuals who showed interest.
The workshop was themed: LAND ON YOUR DREAM JOB. It featured four trainers who spoke and enlightened the students on how to prepare for life after school. The CEO of ITEX FURNITURES, Mr. Tony Ezekiel, gave an inspirational speech on his success story in business, and necessary knowledge and skills needed to succeed in life. He emphasised on the area of entrepreneurship saying: Not everyone will get a white-collar job. Some of you have to go out there and start something. There is something that each one of us knows how to do and derives passion from. We should not belittle whatever we do and we should be patient while nurturing our businesses until they are successful.
Richard Knowdell, an American psychologist and the founder of Career Development Network, USA was another speaker who gave the students tips on how to cope in the world of work. He gave them tips on how to write their resume (CV) and also, what companies look out for in potential employees before hiring. One of the highlights of Dr. Knowdell’s session was a career test which he administered on all the students present. The test was administered in form of a card game. There were two of these tests: The Motivated Skills test and the Career Values test. The results of these card tests opened the eyes of the students to those skills, enjoyable activities and values inherent in them which could harness their success in various occupations.
It was an indeed an interesting, enlightening and motivational workshop.
