Fire Sensitisation and Safety Awareness

The Roman Institute for International Studies (Centre for Terrorism and Security Research, Abuja) in partnership with the Federal Capital Territory Fire Service Command in collaboration, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) FCT command, in collaboration with the Student Affairs Department, Nile University of Nigeria organised a Sensitisation/Awareness Workshop on Fire Safety and Emergency and also a workshop on Drug and Substance Abuse amongst Youths; A threat to National Development for both the students and staff of the university.

The Fire sensitisation was to enable both students and staff to tackle most emergencies within their campus ranging from fire out-brake, health issue emergencies and all.

The NDLEA workshop on the other hand enlighten all on the challenges regarding illicit drug usage, drug trafficking, etc. especially amongst our youth.

Business Summit 2018

The Nile University of Nigeria Business Club he’d its second Business Summit “The Successful Ridge”. The summit aimed at educating students on business related matters such as challenges and expectations in businesses and ways of handling these challenges. The summit had influential individuals such as Dr. Tony Ezekiel (CEO and founder of ITEX Furnitures), Dr Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu (First Lady of Kebbi State and founder of Medicaid Cancer Foundation), and Sarkin Shanun Kano HRH Shehu Mohammed, FCA, FCCA telling our attendees about their journey to the top. 

They advised the student on the benefit of choosing the right career path during their stay in school before they graduate stating that some of the most successful people tarted building the foundation of their future success.

The event was a success as there were lots of questions asked by the students at the end of the event.

VC Cup Tournament 2018

The Traditional VC Cup is an inter-departmental competition that holds annually in the school by bringing all departments in the University to compete for a trophy set aside by the Sports department. Each department brings out the best of its football players to compete and a single team (department) will emerge the winner at the end of the tournament. This years tournament had witnessed an intense struggle between the contestants as the teams that were not performing well before all camp back strong and were giving in their best. It has in participation 8 teams comprising of different departments (some combined due to lack of payers) and at the end, the winner was Computer Science Department, who claimed yet again their second trophy in their history of the competitions they played

NIRPSA Picnic

The Nile Internal Relations & Political Science Association of Nile University of Nigeria had a picnic on Saturday 3rd November 2018 at the Nile University Staff Quarters.

The purpose of the picnic was for entertainment, while discussing and making plans for their conference which is scheduled to hold on the 28th of November 2018.

The discussion was to talk about pressing issues like the need to create an atmosphere which will foster students taking leadership roles such as actively participating in the youth revolution movement, not only foster the growth of Nile University of Nigeria but Nigeria at large.

The discussions included creating and establishing support from parents and professionals in order to build connections and reform student involvement inside and outside the university, for both the association and the school at large.

 

 

Freshers Week 2018

The Student Affairs Department of Nile University of Nigeria in collaboration with the Student Representative Council (SRC) organized the 2018 Freshers Week for its new and transfer students.

The activities for the Freshers Week included: Orientation Lecture, Picnic, School Tour, Sports Competition, Picnic/Video Games, Treasure Hunt, Movie Night, BBQ, Awards/Concert.

To make this session’s Freshers Week more interesting for the students, the theme of the weeks activities was Game of Thrones. As such, the students were divided into six houses, each with a house captain. These houses were:

HouseBaratheon

House Stark

House Lannister

House Targryen

House Dothraki

House White Walkers.

The houses participated in various activities such as: Treasure Hunt, Tug of War, Basket Ball, Volleyball, Video Games, and much more. Points were awarded to successful houses, and at the end, the house with the highest point was declared the winner.

The Houses all did their best to get as much points as possible and at the end the winner emerged.

House Dothraki came first with 61 points

House White Walkers came second with 50 points

House Lannister scored 47 points

House Stark fourth scored 46 points

House Baratheon came fifth with 37 points and

House Targryen were left behind with only 30 points.

It was an exciting week for the new students and the aim was to welcome them in a way they will never forget.

Career Afrika Workshop 2018

Nile University of Nigeria in collaboration with Career Afrika organised a career workshop on the 3rd of November, 2018. This workshop was targeted at the final-year students; however, it was also open to other individuals who showed interest.

The workshop was themed: LAND ON YOUR DREAM JOB. It featured four trainers who spoke and enlightened the students on how to prepare for life after school. The CEO of ITEX FURNITURES, Mr. Tony Ezekiel, gave an inspirational speech on his success story in business, and necessary knowledge and skills needed to succeed in life. He emphasised on the area of entrepreneurship saying: Not everyone will get a white-collar job. Some of you have to go out there and start something. There is something that each one of us knows how to do and derives passion from. We should not belittle whatever we do and we should be patient while nurturing our businesses until they are successful.

 

Richard Knowdell, an American psychologist and the founder of Career Development Network, USA was another speaker who gave the students tips on how to cope in the world of work. He gave them tips on how to write their resume (CV) and also, what companies look out for in potential employees before hiring. One of the highlights of Dr. Knowdell’s session was a career test which he administered on all the students present. The test was administered in form of a card game. There were two of these tests: The Motivated Skills test and the Career Values test. The results of these card tests opened the eyes of the students to those skills, enjoyable activities and values inherent in them which could harness their success in various occupations.

It was an indeed an interesting, enlightening and motivational workshop.

Alumni Reunion 2018

The Alumni Department had its second Reunion for the year 2018 again, which took place on the 7th of July 2018 and was a memorable event as always. It that had in participation many graduates from the first set of 2015 to the last graduating set of the then year 2018.

There were lots activities that was organised to entertain the students. Amongst the events were Paintball Tournament, Campus Marathon, Sports tournament and Raffle Draw, to mention a few.

There was a red carpet section for those who wants to have family pictures for memory. To make the reunion better, the Alumni ID Card was also launched and displayed for the ALUMNI. The benefits and privileges that comes with owning the card and all were discussed.

2018 Nile Premier League

Nile Premier League which is an annual events organised by the Sports unit, Student Affairs Department on Nile University of Nigeria is taking place for maximum of 8 weeks. It has 11 teams that participated for the league. After weeks on intense heart melting performance from all teams, the struggle was tough and challenging.

All teams fought but at the end, only the bravest stood on top to prove worthy having Footy FC as the standing winners at the end of the season with 30 points which is three points ahead of their second runner up, Nile Stars having 27 points. The third on table were legend FC with 24 points, Goal Machines FC with 18 points and the fifth on the table was Coventry. Having same points as the Goal Machines FC but were down with goal  difference

Zobo Drink Competition

The first edition Nile Zoo Drink Competition organised by the Student Affairs Department, which had in collaboration the Student Representative Council (SRC), Cuisine Club and Business Club, took place as scheduled on the 11th May 2018.

The competition had in participation 15 contestants who presented their Zobo having their “Killer Recipe”.
The competitors were judged based on these criteria which are:
Taste, Presentation, Aroma, and Appearance.
After the judges had decided, there were 5 winners at the end.
The fifth winner was contestant 13 (Hauwa Mohd Yakasai), who happened to score 86 points.
The fourth winner was contestant 1 (Fatima Ibrahim Maikarfi), having 87 points
There is no third position as two of the contestants came head to head in points. The contestants were: Jibril Tukur Othman and Yasmin Amal Yakubu who both scored 89 points each.
And the winner in all was contestant 12 (Khadija Yunusa), who scored 91 points

Business Plan Competition

The Business Plan competition organized by the Student Representative Council (SRC) of Nile University was open to all students to participate. The purpose of the competition was to let students think and come up with a great business plan idea, see the feasibility of their plan and reward them based on their creativity. It has in participation 4 contestants after rigorous screenings. The competition took place on the 11th of April 2018 and after the judges decision and screening on which business plan was the best, they had 3 winners at the end of the day.

The first position winner who won the competition was Adeola Aminat with business name “Catfish Business“, who carted away with N40,000 prize

The second winner was Aisha Usman with business name “The Root Honey” who also got N30,000 as a prize

The third place winner was Aisha Musa Kaibo with business name “The Mystique” who got N20,000 as the third prize

The cash prize they got was to support their business.
